Default Topping off from my pocket - Tampa Hard Rock

Last time I was at the Tampa Hard Rock Casino I bought $200 in chips and they told me to keep $100 of it in my pocket due to the max buy-in rules. It didn't really matter because I was playing 2/4 limit. I just pulled some chips out of my pocket when I got down to around $60.

This time, however, I'll be playing the 1/2 NL game for the first time. What's the deal with rebuying in that game? I'd like to just top off my stack to $100 when I drop below $80 or so. Am I allowed to just pull it out of my pocket or do I have to go through the dealer?

When I was in Tampa HR 2 months ago, they wouldn't let you buy more than $100 for any game. This was right after they got busted for allowing no max buy ins.
I presume by your message that they are loosening up a little or you got a don't give a crap cage.
Anyway, I always buy more than $100 max for the NL games and keep the excess in my pocket and top off when I get down $20+.
The dealers/players don't mind and I usually let the dealer know when I do this.
My recommondation would be, if you can buy more than $100 at the cage do it and top off. Use the don't ask don't tell policy and beg for forgiveness if caught!

Thanks for the response, four2flush.

I was last there about a month ago and they definitely let people buy whatever amount of chips they want at the cage. They just let you know to keep all but $100 in your pocket. I was just concerned about the rules about putting money into play.

I have played places where they have bizzaro rebuy rules and you MUST buy in for EXACTLY a specific amount with each buy--no more, no less, and they have very strict rules about at what point you can rebuy. So something like $300 is THE buyin, but when you get to $149 or below you may add $300. But you may NOT add less than or more than $300. Doesn't sound like HardRock does this. But it's easy enough to ask the floor, and bizzaro rules like this are very rare in my geographically limited experience.

From what i've seen, the floors are really weird/lax. some enforce one set of rules, some enforce another.

After that whole uncapped 10/25 NL legal fiasco, they changed so many things that you can get away with a lot of borderline things due to confused floors, brushes, and dealers.

One pretty solid way of deepening your stack is buying whatever you want to sit with, sitting with $100, getting a table transfer and just bring all your chips to the next table and sit with your "winnings". afaik even if they knew what you were up to, it might not even be against whatever set of rules is being enforced at the time.

This wont work. When you transfer, you can only sit at the next table with 100. The only way you can take your stack to a new table is if your game breaks. However, it is VERY easy to sneak full red stacks onto the table every couple hands. I usually have a full 500 stack in front of me within 2-3 orbits. This is usually pointless though because every table i've ever played on there has maybe 1-3 full stacks and the rest have 100.. Seems like a lot of people hit and run.
