OOTers who live/travel in China; cell phone question.

Are there services which will let you rent a prepaid cell phone for a month or so in China?

My friend tells me I can just take my current phone back, and buy a prepaid simcard. I'm pretty sure that my phone, which isn't quad-band or whatever, does not work on the Asian mobile networks.

HK is GSM 900 and you can just buy prepaid sims with minutes, not sure about the rest of China. Where are you going? Just look up the network there and see if your phone supports the frequency.
