I bet the flop because UTG has been just GIVING me money with any two cards and my thinking is if I can fold the remainder of the field, I can continue to value bet him. If not and I remain unimproved, I can shut down.

Im glad you included your description of UTG but why havent you given us your read of the acutal villain???

also, against an unknown I play it exactly the same way given your flop bet reasoning.
