metagame and pyshology issues aside (i understand this can be v imprtantr HU), he played this hand about as possible.

The best explanation is that John owed genius some money from a side bet or something, or a misclick of some sort. He couldn't have possibly thought that Genius would fold for $3k in a pot that size, and he can't win a showdown. The pot is $24k with a $3k raise - one should call with K high in that spot.

Most normal thinking players will either have an ace here, or something without showdown value. Genius would never bet here with a K, and I would say its also v unlikely he has a 7. I really dont mind dags' play.

Exactly. John doesn't want me to post his exact line of thinking, but as I stated before any intelligent NL player would be able to figure out why the play isn't logically horrible.
