I would love to see what would happen if someone came down to my part of the country (southwest) and called a latino "white".

I remember some controversy about a scholarship specifically directed at "African-American" students. Turned out that a guy who won the scholarship was actually a white dude. But he was born in South Africa and was a natualized American citizen. So he argued that, technically speaking, he was "African-American." Never found out what happend to that controversy, though.

I never saw the logic of using the term "Hispanic" as it appears on ethnicity polls or forms. I always understood the term to mean persons of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Central or South American, or Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race.
I also think it's silly to count/categorize people by race. People are people, at least to me. But oh well, a lot of races want to be counted separately.
