The Well: CCUUURRSE
Quote:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A stranger is being shown around a village that he has just become part of. He is shown a well and his guide says "On any day except Wednesday, you can shout any question down that well and you'll be told the answer" . The man seems pretty impressed, and so he shouts down: Why not on Wednesday? and the voice from in the well shouts back: Because on Wednesday, it’s your day in the well . Well this is my Wednesday in The Well which will consist of Wednesday and Thursday of this week. You may ask me any question about whatever you like. I will answer to the best of my abilities if I choose to answer your question. Shoot. |

How old are you?
How long have you been playing full time? What kind of computer/monitor setup do you have? VP$IP/PFR/AF at FR? Why aren't you playing a couple levels higher than 1/2? Coach me? |

A little under a year. A very simple one, one 15" monitor. 26.88/19.89/3.32 over 145,000 hands I've played much higher and had some great success, but equal failure. For along time I was ego driven in poker and wanted to play the highest limits against the best players and win. But now that I'm an adult with responsibilities and more importantly loottts of bills I'm only in poker for the W. And 12 tabling 1 2 I produce the W everyday. It's the only game that I've found that I never "have a bad day" and obviously there are a lot factors which contribute to that. People, friends, regulars, family all ask "why don't you move up?" Easy. Why play tough shorthanded games where the money means something to me and losing will affect my play against equally skilled or more skilled opponents where my edge is slight or nonexistent? When I can 12 table against players that lack any fundamental understanding of the game. A game where losing a 1000BB pot wouldn't affect me in the least and I can continue playing my A game. And a game where I the only variance I experience (at the end of the day) is straight up. There is so much more to being a professional poker player then being an adept player. The biggest tenants are emotional control, bankroll management and a lack of regard for money. I've known many exceptionaly skilled players that lacked one or all of these things while having amazing poker ability. Thus far they have all failed in poker. Playing these shallow stakes allows me to maintain all of those things, and makes me feel good about my game everyday, versus going on tilt because I'm making bad decisions against good, aggressive opponents which causes me to make bad BR decisions and by very definition of the size of the stakes makes it impossible for me not to care about the outcome of pots won/lost. EDIT BY NATION: no talk about coaching here please. |
