bah...

i'm no gangster, and i understand that some people take it further..

in the city i grew up in, there were fistfights every day, in school, after school, at houses, at the bar, etc..

just became somewhat 'normal'.

i know there are crazy psychopaths out there, it just doesn't sound like the OP's terrorizer was one. maybe i'm wrong, but 28 years of conditioning would lead me to not back down from something like the OP described...

Commerce 40/80 I 3 bet a LAGgy guy with something marginal, maybe like QJo and wind up winning and he whines some about my preflop play. So like 5 hands later he raises in MP and I 3 bet him with J3s just to piss him off, wind up winning with a showdown and he goes apeshit threatening me. Definitely thought I was gonna get punched there til a friend of his walked him away to calm down. Oops.

"The question is not whether you are afraid to die; most everyone has that fear at one level or another.
The real question is whether you are afraid to live."

I have been threatened a few times but my favorite was this one time at Hollywood Park. I don't usually wear sunglasses when I play but I was this time in order to hide a black eye given to me earlier in the week by a guy at a bar who sucker punched me for being rude to his girlfriend (I wasn't). Anyway, in the game I had been drinking and talking a lot and getting pretty lucky (it was my friend's birthday) and a guy across the table told me if I didn't change my behavior he would kick my ass. I lifted my sunglasses to expose my black eye and told him "buddy, it wouldn't be the first time I got my ass kicked playing cards!!" He looked shocked but I think I scared him because I did not change my behavior and he didn't threaten me again.

Id just tell him to [censored] off and hope he passes first lick. That way I can beat his ass and claim self defense.

You do realize you don't need to be swung at to claim self-d, right?

Yes, twice, once we went outside I showed him my Ruger, he walked back in, picked up his chips and left.
