Some quick craps questions (simple).
I have never played craps in a casino, only in play money online. When my brother played in a casino he said you have to bet certain amount on the numbers so they can pay you out easily. I am going to vegas next week and don't want to look like an idiot, so can someone help me figure out how much i will have to give the dealer.
Lets say its a $3 crap tables. How much do i have to put on 4&10 5&9 6&8 And i guess my final question is... When you have money ona number and it hits, they push you your winnings. How do you tell them you want the money back from the number? Thanks for any help

Assuming that you mean place bets, the true odds are:
4&10 2:1 5&9 3:2 6&8 6:5 However, place bets have lesser payouts so the payout odds are: 4&10 9:5 5&9 7:5 6&8 7:6 Therefore, if you are putting a place bet on 4, 10, 5, or 9, multiples are 5 are favorable, and with 6 or 8, multiples are 6 are favorable. ie: Place bet $5 on 4 or 10, the payout would be $9. Place bet $5 on 5 or 9, the payout would be $7. Place bet $6 on 6 or 8, the payout would be $7. In terms of what happens if you hit, you can tell the dealer what you want to happen with your winnings and/or bet. For example, some common moves would be: take everything down (bet/winnings), raise your current place bet X units, or shift your place bet to another number. Some dealers will pick up on betting patterns and make an action automatically and just confirm it with you. Bottom line is just tell them what you want, you don't need fancy terminology [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img], especially in a touristy place like Vegas.

Ok just let me confirm that i understand correctly. If its a $3 table that means i can bet $3 on the passline. Then once a point is established i can bet $5 on the 4,5,9,10 and $6 on 6&8?
I guess one last question too.. Say i have money on 6 and 8 and the point is 9 and it hits. They turn off the money on 6 & 8 until a point is established again... so do they automatically turn it back on or do i have to tell them to turn it back on? Thank you so much for helping.

The betting description I posted above is just for place bets, which is after the point has been established. If the table min is $3, you can bet the pass/don't pass any amount equal or over that, because it doesn't matter since your getting paid 1:1 so there aren't any funky possible payout amounts. Your right with the understanding that once a point has been established then you can do place bets on 4-10.
If you have a place bet on 6 and 8 and the point is 9 and it hits, then the pass line pays out but your place bets remain on the table for the next established point automatically. However, you can remove place bets at any time.

However, it is possible to turn the bets back on. It's generally not a great idea. Actually, I can't think of a reason to keep those bets on during the come-out roll. Maybe if you were laying bets and playing don't pass. Of course, then you're basically hedging your bets.

Unless the shooter is a skilled precision shooter who is going for 7s on the comeout, it makes no difference whatsoever if your place bets (or come point odds bets) are working or not. If the the dice are being tossed randomly, then it is irrelevant as to what is working or note - the probability and payouts do not change. AB

A quick note on low limit games. When I played the 4 Queens's $3 game (several years ago so I don't know if they still have it) you were welcome to make the $3 minimum place bet. However, they only paid even money since they don't deal in fractions. If you wanted to be paid the normal odds you had to make the minimum bets Stylos lists.
If you end up at pretty much any strip casino the minimum will be $5 if you're lucky and they probably won't take place bets in non-standard denominations.

A $3 place bet is simply 1 flat, 2 with odds on the 4/5/9/10 -- it will pay $5 on the 4/10, and $4 on the 5/9. On the 6/8, it depends if the table deals half dollars -- if not, it pays even money. If it does pay halves, it is usually considered as .50 flat with 2.50 in odds and will pay 3.50. A $3 4/5/9/10 always pay odds.
