Default NPR Story: A Push to Legalize Online Gambling

A Push to Legalize Online Gambling

Audio for this story will be available at approx. 3:00 p.m. ET

Day to Day, November 15, 2007 · Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) is sponsoring a bill that would legalize Internet gambling, creating a government regulated online industry. Although supporters say it could generate up to $3 billion in tax revenues a year, the legislation faces tough opposition from a coalition of family and evangelical groups and professional sports leagues. Mike Pesca reports on Wednesday's hearing before the House Financial Services Committee.

Man, you could imagine an online poker room run by the catholic church as a constant "charity" event? What juicy games those would be.
