Default Poker in the Bahamas?

Hi all, going to Freeport on the Grand Bahama Island this weekend for a wedding. I know there are casinos around but are there poker rooms any where near here?

I have never been to Freeport, but I doubt they have poker there, when I was in Nassau 5 months ago they didn't have poker in the Atlantis Hotel (where the PCA WPT Event and other tourneys are held). I'd check out Cardroom Directory at PokerPages.com if I were you.

I was told that poker is illegal in the Bahamas. (they get a waiver for the occasional big tourney).

There is poker at a casino in Nassau, but not at the Atlantis. I assume that it is just not as profitable as games against the house.

This doesn't have anything to do with the legality of poker there, but it is illegal for Bahamian residents to go into the casinos. So legal or not, I'm not sure how any poker could be sustained there without a local crowd.

Poker is legal in the Bahamas. As has been said, you have to go to the Crystal Palace on Cable Beach. They spread 1-2 and 2-5 NL and you pay $8.00 per half hour for both games. They also close the room down around 3:00 am. They did that last week with 3 full tables going.

Atlantis is real high end and probably attracts some high roller types. It makes sense that they wouldn't want them playing poker and wouldn't want professional poker players hanging around there. Monte Carlo doesn't have poker, probably for similar reasons.

I am not sure why they don't have poker in Freeport. It's possible they don't have enough tourists there to support it.
