Default Building A Bankroll

I've been playing Hold Em for nearly 7 years. I've cashed over 1,000 a few times in casinos, online and in a few casino tourneys. However I have also lost quite a bit over the years. I feel pretty happy about my overall game, except for my bankroll management.

Any advice on building a bankroll the proper way. Any personal experiences would be appreciated. Thanks a lot.

I am in the same boat right now with bankroll managment. You definately need to stick to the 300BB rule. Anotherwords, if you play $.50-$1.00 you need at least $300. If you plat $5-10 you need at least $3,000. 30 buy ins for no limit.

For lower stakes:

Keep at least 300BB for limit games, preferably 500BB (i.e. if you play 2/4 limit hold'em at a casino, you will want at least $1,200 behind). Beware that 2/4 limit in a casino is much much easier than 2/4 online.

If you play NL, you will want to have at least 20 buy-ins for that level if you play it frequently. I.E. if you play 1/2 NL live you will want at least $4,000 behind. Again, online 1/2 is MUCH different than live 1/2.

If you exclusively play MTTs, 50-100x the buy-in s usually recommended. For SNGs, anywhere from 30-100 buy-ins is fine, obviously you need more buy-ins the higher you play to deal with variance.

How do NLHE/PLO bankroll requirements change if you only single table, and never never never play more than one table?

illini43's BR guides above are for single-tabling. Some have said that the bankroll rqmts shouldn't change if you multi-table. Of course, if you 24-table NL, that no longer works unless you SS.

Bankrolls are over-rated if you can get cash from other sources and poker isn't your "job".

You should decide for yourself whether you can replace your bankroll easily from other sources. If you're playing 100NL and don't have another $2K to deposit, then you need to play within your bankroll. If you have $200 online, and can afford to load another $200 if you lose it, then by all means play 100NL. But given deposit limits and difficulties, most people should at least play within their available online funds, even if they stretch the standard bankroll recommendations a little.

You can effectively 8-12 table small stakes limit or NL with the bankroll requirements I listed above. Obviously you would want a bankroll on the higher end to effectively multitable, but you can 8 table with 20 max buyins for NL and still be playing within your bankroll...
