What buyin shot maximises EV?

so i had $5.6K in my account. ive been playing 1-2nl, run it up from 1.6K to 5.6K. i figure as i have 20 buyins for 1-2nl ($4K) whatever above ill risk as taking a shot at 2-4nl (4buyins).

is this sensible, especially given my very high variance style i play these days.

just that would it make more sense if i ran it up to $8K, and then i stuck at 2-4nl, rather than trying to take a shot with only 4 buyins, meaning if i lose them i have to win 8 back (at 1-2nl) to take the same shot again.

EV has nothing to do with bankroll, unless you aren't on your A game because you are playing too high or too low.

im sure there must be some geeky math formula to work out what your EV in terms of profit (where the end point is say 50K hands) given your BR, Stand. dev, win rate at each level by setting different levels of boundaries of when you move up or down limits due to good/bad variance.

I mean, your idea of maintaining your BR for the level you're on and using the money above that to take shots is a pretty good one. I don't see any problems with it.

Just be sure that if you run well and build up a full roll for the next level, that you are able to beat it longterm for more than the lower level, or else theres no reason to move up.
