Shannon Elizabeth is good for poker.

The image of poker as a game for sharks to prey on YOU the casual player was obviously bad for the game, so how could an attractive, female Chris Moneymaker be bad for poker? Not that she looks anything like Chris, but... you know.

just seems like making the argument that poker is a skill game is a lot tougher when many of the best players in the world lose to shannon elizabeth on national television...thats not necessarily the best message right now for poker...

i am not making a comment on her poker game (she may be one of the most skilled in the world)...i understand that the structure makes it more likely, etc...i am genuinely happy for her

i just think at a time like this, it would be great for cheadle and elizabeth to pull of an upset or two...but to have a poker star take the title...

Yeah I agree, I think that it would be great for one of the pros to take it down, but obviously they will play up the celeb success in this year's tournament when they do the broadcast and I think it will be favorable in the end. The irony of heads up play is that it is not a chess match, but a weighted coinflip... So I suppose heads-up on TV isn't a great idea for poker, period.

I believe if she wins and with all the publicity it will bring, it will definitely be bad for poker. The people in Washington arguing that poker is a skill game will hear "but didn't a B list actress just beat the best players in the game and win a major tournament. How can the game be any more than luck if that happens?".
