Maybe some people back in to set up a future stop short move when leaving the parking spot. You can't pull the stop short move when backing out.

QFT- I find it easier/safer to back into a spot than back out, in most places. Therefore....

i dont know why but whenever i see someone staring straight ahead when reversing they look kinda dumb.

If I'm backing into a parking space with cars on both sides, I rarely look behind me once I've started the turn. All you need is your inside sideview mirror.

I was worried that you were dead when it took you this long to post in this thread.

lol. One of the things I look forward to when I drive you somewhere is your neverending sense of awe at my parking skillz.

the engine and more importantly the battery is much easier to access when backing in. i have an older car and never know when something may go wrong. I have needed to be jumped before in both cases and after pulling in and being stranded for 3 hours i have never made that mistake again.

True, unless you drive an old (rear-engine air cooled) VW or a Corvair. Not too many of those around any more.

my car's battery is in the trunk. audi

I helped a coworker jump her BMW. Battery in trunk too. What is wrong with those damn Germans anyway? I really don't get why you wouldn't put the battery as close to the starter as is practical. It makes no sense to run 200 amps through 10 feet of cable. At least for the old VW's, the battery under the back seat was very close to the starter.

i never really thought about it until i read this thread, but i've been driving around my brother's F-150xl the past couple days and it has become obvious to me that backing in is far and away the superior option.
