[ QUOTE ]
Mexicans (I'm half Mexican myself, btw), aren't in the same immigrant experience bucket, because coming here isn't near the gamble and committment, for them, required of Asians, or Middle Easterners (whose immigrants also gamble alot, AFAIK from poker [/ QUOTE ] I thought it was because they didn't have any money. |

Re: Asians & Gambling
well, its certainly in the Chinese cultural history but as for the rest of Asia I'm not sure. Of course we could consider the influence of China across the continent over the years.

Re: Asians & Gambling
I'm Viet and I like gambling so I should probably respond. For me it's kind of a social and cultural thing. In Vietnam, gambling is an evening hobby that a lot of people like doing. It's like sitting around with your friends and playing board games. There isn't really a negative social correlation with gambling there unlike in America. It's generally accepted as clean recreational fun. Sooo I guess that kind of mindset transfers into generations that move to or are raised in the U.S. like me.
All this talk about Asians being good at math and being materialistic blah blah blah as the reasoning for their interest in gambling is nonsense. |

Re: Asians & Gambling
How can there not be any negative social correlation with gambling when people (however few it may be) lose everything they own and destroy their lives because of it.
