Default Joining a new table?

Am I the only one who doesn't like to play at a newly formed table? I feel like people are so cautious at new tables, just feeling each other out. They (presumably) just got there, so they are fresh. There are no donks with deep stacks. Everyone just met, so they aren't very lively, joking around, etc. which makes people play worse.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Advantages, disadvantages? Discuss....

I like new tables. Then I can establish dominance and make it "my" table.

I love new tables. They're full of fish who haven't had time to bust. Tables that have been around for a few hours tend to fill with the rocks and grinders and the downright good players who, once established, last for hours.

Yes, it can take a round or two for a new table to open up a bit.

Kak,

"playing worse" do you mean tighter? Because that is what I have found when I just join a new table.

yet, one never knows usually within an hr max 2hrs. The table loosens up after a couple ppl have felted and re-loaded.

I find it depends. At 1 in the afternoon, new table kind of sucks compared to sitting at a going table. At 10pm, sitting at a new table is [censored] awesome.

Second this thought. Because better players will tend to log longer sessions than worse players, a new table is ideal. Unlike an existing table, its population should be a fairly average cross-section of the players who play poker at any given time during their day at the casino; an existing table will overrepresent players who play longer sessions.

I don't have a ton of B&M experience, so a couple weeks ago was the first time I had been sat at a newly formed table. I thought it was great. As someone else said, it was a random cross section of typical (i.e., BAD!) players at the casino. I had my best session ever that day.

Always prefer new table, I'm not covered by anyone (yet). It's also true that I normally open a table these days, its rare that I don't.

New tables are da bomb. "I came all this way to gamble, and here we go, right out the gate!" I'm tenfold (at least) more comfortable in a cardroom than the average player, so I settle in immediately while they all let me take charge. Or try to play back at me. Either way, good times.

As a dealer, I love starting new tables in the morning. Everyone's fresh and friendly. I'm near the end of my shift, so I'm punchy, and I try to make it fast and fun for everybody. Even the higher limits at that point tend to like some banter when just getting started at 8am, and they appreciate my fast deck check and setup. I take the attitude of, hey, I'm warmed up and will take care of you. Stretch out, shake away the groggy, just trust me and everything will be fine.
