British spellings: Flavour, Aluminium. The latter pronounced 'al-you-min-yum'

[/ QUOTE ]
Isn't it even worse than that, as in 'al-you-min-e-um'?

As a Canadian, I go along with most of those happily - flavour, colour, cheque, zed not zee, etc...but that aluminum thing has always driven me nuts.

[/ QUOTE ]

I like all the extra letters in the British spellings. They're fun.

However, saying "shhed-ule" instead of "sked-ule" just sounds dumb.

I was in Amsterdam and then the police had made a roadblock and stopped every car and searched through them, they had even blocked the side streets so it was impossible to escape into the side streets. I got so curious about what they were looking for that I asked the taxi driver and he told me they were looking for fireworks. "Is there maybe some fireworks hidden inside that box labeled Cocaine? whatever Comoros is (and according to wikipedia, it "is an island nation in the Indian Ocean, located off the eastern coast of Africa on the northern end of the Mozambique Channel between northern Madagascar and northeastern Mozambique" - it's your turn to live it up.

Additionally, happy birthday Merv Griffin. In honor of your happy happy, I give the following:

On this day in 1951, she might have "just said no" to her 30th birthday.

That is a cool flag.

Not as cool as the Union Flag, obviously, but cool.
