Re: Internet speeds : 1 gig limit at 256kps... How slow is this?
It means you are on the low end of DSL and have an absurd limit to how much you can download in a month.

Well clearly Im going to have to quit downloading torrents etc. But what else is considered a "download"- playing games? opening up pokerstars?

anything you do online uses bandwidth and is therefore considered a "download" as you put it. 1 gig is a very low limit per month. You can use that up in a month doing nothing more than playing at poker sites and surfing 2p2.

Re: Internet speeds : 1 gig limit at 256kps... How slow is this?
I have changed it to a 5gb limit with the speed 512k/128k. Is this adequate for around 4 hours of internet usage including pokerstars daily?

[/ QUOTE ] depends on what you're intending on doing. if you don't intend on downloading video or music on a significant level, you should be fine (ie, streaming video reguarly, streaming music reguarly, etc.). |

Re: Internet speeds : 1 gig limit at 256kps... How slow is this?
5Gb with 512k/128k? Let's see...
5Gb in 30 days is about 160Mb per day. If you say you will be using it no more than 4 hours a day it will be about 40Mb per hour, or translating it to Kbytes per second (40000/3600) is over 10Kbyte/s. Even multitabling will not occupy more than 2-4 Kb/s of your bandwith, so playing poker will be just fine. AIM, occasional downloads (mp3 and stuff like that), Windows/antivirus updates should be no problem too. Minimal DVD movie file size is no less than 4-5Gb, so don't even think about it, unless it is a DVIRip (with a filesize of around 700Mb) - in this case you can get one or two a month and still not exceed your limit. Just in case you did not know that, your 512k download speed can get you up to about 64Kbyte/sec - so using it for just an hour daily at full speed will eat all your traffic. (It is not too bad, I once had a subscription where I could exhaust all my monthly traffic in just 30 minutes - literally.). |
