There is a reason why penny stocks are only worth pennies... they suck. Roulette EV > Penny Stock EV.

Has a penny stock ever hit into the dollars? Sorry for a lame question, but I know nothing about penny stocks.

Penny stocks (stocks that trade under a buck) covers a wide range, some are on the pink sheets or OTC, some are actually still listed. Some are formerly good companies fallen on hard time, some never were and never will be. You are much more likely to run into outright scams in penny stocks.

Most of my investments have been penny stocks. But I dont buy companies that have break through products that will revolutionize the world and be franchised across the country. In the penny arena those companies are almost always frauds. The more press releases the company releases, the more likely its a pump n dump scheme.

I focus on real businesses with real assets and earnings trading at attractive valuations, just liked you should do with non penny stocks. I rarely pay less than ten cents per share as transaction costs are too high and the real dregs trade there.

If you are interested in company just because you can buy a million shares for a few thousand bucks and you have some fantasy it will go to $2 and make you rich, well you are better off setting your cash on fire. The creeps in this arena have a dozen ways to hook suckers into the stock so they can dump their worthless paper on you for a fat profit while they keep printing more.

I think it's mostly in USA where a stock can be graded (superficially or not) based on its price.

Well known investors (eg William O'Neill) have recommended using the stock's price as one of the screens to use during datamining before conducting further investigations.

If a company has a 1000000 shares at $1 each, then how is it fundamentally different than if it had 10000 shares at $100 each (liquidity issues aside)?

It seems like the physical quote value has an important psychological influence somewhat unique to the US stockmarket.
