Re: Manhattan Steakhouse poll
If only choosing from the list, I prefer Strip House and Keen's. But it's Luger by a mile.

Re: Manhattan Steakhouse poll
Lugers is not located in Manhattan so maybe it should not be counted. Capital Grille is a chain and is mediocre imo ( someone mentioned this steak house) There are three which need to be considered. Benjamin's steak house is very very good, it is like a year old and is like a right off of e 42nd btwn Madison and Park, I believe someone from Luger's opened this restaurant. The porterhouse there is amazing. I also really like the rib eye at Frankie and Johnnys, it is in fact that best rib eye I have ever had. One other recommendation I would like to make for steak houses in NYC is Quality Meats on W 58th Street. They are also only a year or two old but I know it was named one of the 5 best new restaurants in NYC when it opened not too long ago.

Re: Manhattan Steakhouse poll
Other non-winners (in my mind) but possible contenders are Ben & Jack's and Mark Joseph's. They're two more Luger's spin-offs that don't quite measure up. I liked Ben & Jack's, though, and will eat there again if I'm in the neighborhood and want something a bit less fancy than Wolfgang's. My friends and I all hated our one dinner at Mark Joseph's. Bad service and stringy steak.
Everyone puts down S&W, but I actually liked their Cajun ribeye when I used to work in that neighborhood. Has anyone tried Porter House in the Time Warner Building yet? |

Re: Manhattan Steakhouse poll
All: I think Peter Luger is great, but somewhat overrated.
daryn: Peter Luger is sort of a "NY experience" thing in addition to the food. But if you don't care that much about that sort of thing and your friends are in Manhattan, I'd suggest Wolfgang's instead. |
