Default Best room at Flamingo, or average room at Bellagio?

Your input, please!

I am taking my wife to Vegas. Her first trip. Poker playing will be minimal, but when I can do it I'll be at Venetian, Wynn or MGM anyway.

As far as best room for my wife and I to, uh, be in, would you recommend the GO Luxury Room at the Flamingo, or a standard room at the B? The price is about the same, and it's the most I am willing to spend per night ($160ish + taxes). If we did stay at Bellagio, would the $20 trick work to get a fountain view room? We are staying midweek in July. I have heard very cool things about the GO room, including the LCD TV in the bathroom mirror, floor-to-ceiling windows and the incredible bed.

Thanks for your insight.

I've heard that the B is tougher with the $20 trick, might have to do $50, depending on how many nights you're staying.

According to this site, the $20 trick has been quite successful at the B:

Also, if it's going to work any time of year, July midweek should be it. Have a great time!

The Flamingo GO rooms do look pretty cool, it is still the Flamingo.

I have stayed at the Flamingo, though not the new GO rooms, and liked it. The Pol is pretty good, and the flamingos and penguins are fun to check out. But it shows its age inside the casino area.

I think if you are trying to set a mood, you're going to be better off treating her to the Bellagio.

I stayed in a Go room in February, and at the Bellagio two weeks ago.....I was pleasantly suprised by the Flamingo, the room was much nicer than I expected (a touch cheesy, but nice), and was mildly dissapointed by the Bellagio, even though the room was really nice and I crushed the 15-30 game all week. I would assume that 99% of women would prefer the B, but I found the casino to be boring and snooty, not exactly a lot of fun. Personally, I would stay at Caesars to have more "fun", or the V for a nicer room....

The Flamingo has a tendency to reduce rates as it gets closer to the time, so if you book now, make sure you check the rates in June/july, you can probably save a few bucks (we rebooked and saved $500+ for super bowl weekend)

does this $20 trick work with rooms that are already comped/discounted due to player's cards/comps ?

Is mid-week Monday to Thursday? If so just sign up for the Bellagio email special. There is the usual summer special, regular room (upgraded to fountain view subject to availability at checkin) for $149. No $20 trick required.

Dusting this one off to get some fresh opinions.

Let me now add that my wife is PREGNANT and wants a really comfortable bed.

All opinions on where we should stay between Flamingo GO Luxury room and Bellagio regular room are welcome.

Bellagio and Wynn are purported to have the most comfortable matresses on the planet. Never slept in one, myself--I'm more the Stardust/Harrah's/Tropicana/Excalibur/Orleans type. But Flamingo mattresses don't seem to get much mention.

"Nobody ever got fired for buying IBM" applies. Nobody's wife ever got pissed at 'em for booking a room at Bellagio. Doesn't matter if Flamingo might have turned out as good or slightly better, if it happens to be a bad experience you will be blamed. A little apriori damage control can be applied in this case... book the B.
