CHris Myers is the roommate who tells you the final score of the game when you get home after work even though he knew you taped it and wanted to watch it later.

Awesome. I had this roomate. I taped the Auburn/Florida game one year because I couldn't watch it live. I'm like 2 minutes into the tape when my roomate comes home from seeing that movie The Contender and goes "Did you watch the game yet?" I said "Just started." He goes "Don't bother. Florida won." Then he told me the ending to The Contender.

The teams were even going to OT, so going for 2 is incorrect. Going to the 2nd OT, Chokelahoma had the advantage because they would be on defense first, so there is more of an incentive.

very good point that I left out of my original explanation.

MT: Thanks, that makes a ton of sense.

Aus: Thanks.

Jared: I don't watch enough college ball to know. There's that big an edge, huh? Makes sense, I guess.

Diablito,

I'm not really sure. We can't really know if the coach did some sort of EV calculation (he wouldn't think of it that way, but basically the same thing) both times or just went on some sort of gut feeling that was wrong in terms of maximizing his chance to win.

The main edge comes from having an extra down if you need a touchdown. I'm actually curious now how big that edge is.

Not quite. Going last is vaguely like having position. The question here though is whether it's better to go for 2 and avoid a coinflip for who goes last, or to take the coinflip and if you win it go for 2 if you are down 1 point pending the PAT (thus avoiding going first).

I might be misunderstanding some of you, but there is no coinflip for the second OT. Boise St was definitely going to be on offense first. The only toss is before the first OT so for extra OTs the positions switch. Since Boise was on defense first in OT1 they would be on offense first in OT2.

WAC goes 3-0 and clinches at least a share of best win % of the bowl season.

[/ QUOTE ]

I am wrong. The WAC went 3-1. Sorry. Please disregard that best win % thing.
