I think a check is just as good if not better then a bet. With this board what hands that you beat are going to call a bet? I do not think there are any hands that are going to call you assuming the villians is a decent player. And lets say you do bet and he raises you all in knowing you have an ace, and that your best bet is a split. If he has an ace he has pretty much nothing to worry about (assuming he knows your play means you can only hold a strong ace so A/5 is out of the question. So I do not feel that checking behind is a poor play, you dont lose any value (no worse hands are calling), saves when your beat with the third nuts, and you do not have to be put to the test for your tournament life with the third nuts, calling and praying for a split.

(cash game however, I call his all in all day!)

44 and A5 beats you. One 44 and three A5.
Forty-one other aces?

You don't have 3rd nut.
You have 5-45th nut.

[/ QUOTE ] Actually, I agree with you jogsxyz. But the convention on these boards (and in most books that I have read) is not to count hands that are tied separately i.e. all three instances of A5 are counted as 2nd nuts, and so on.

I do think that the system that you follow is a more useful one for hand analysis.

All those books are dated. Will not be considered useful books in the future.

In a cash game, there's another reason not to bet. The other guy with the same hand might C/R you all in. Now the rake will be $5 instead of $1. Your value bet will costs you $2.
