yeah i'm not sure exactly how much friends are going to bring to gamble with. i'm personally going to a set stop-loss of 2k, since i plan on playing some 2/5 and want to have 3 bi for that plus 500 for other gambling (1/2 and table games).

but i dont know what my friends will do - some will bring 500, some might bring 80 like you said.

i'll definitely get a players card. we did book through them, but didn't know about a casino rate. they were advertising a "casino gold" special that had $85 rates on the weekend, but they said they were out of the rooms allocated to that special. next time, i guess.

The players card is simple, any floor in the pit should be able to get you one (all they need is your drivers license), and you hand it in every time you play.

FYI, Harrah's announced last month that Imperial Palace is switching from having its own players club to being on the Total Rewards system (the Harrah's-wide players club). I'm not sure whether they've actually made the switch yet, or whether the change would impact on the Casino Rate matter.

The waitresses in the Venetian poker room have enormous, gigantic cans!

If you're semi-broke college kids, then act like it! Stay at IP. It's a better "party" hotel than the Venetian, and if you're not going to be spending much time in the room, then why spend the extra money. Now if you're going to Vegas and taking a chick, then definitely stay at The "V".

IP is perfectly located for everything. The Mirage(a real poker room) is right across the street. Ceaser's and the Bellagio are the next two casino's across the street to your left. I liked the look of Caesars' poker room the best but they only have a low roller game's going from what I saw. They also have a cheap tournament at 11pm(?).

When you get to your first poker room grab on of the free poker mags. They have a listing of all the Vegas tournaments in the back. There are plenty of cheap 30 and $60 tourneys near IP -- Paris, Bally's, Caesars.

Another cheap party place is Thr Casino Royale which is 2 casinos to the right of IP (next to Harrah's). It is a good place to fule up before you head out. $1 beers and margaritas. It is also a good place to go when you are too drunk to be tolerated elswhere. They have $3 craps and 25 cent roulette.

I only played there once, but I really liked it. The guy who ran the roulette was like one of those guys that insults your girlfriend so you'll throw bottles at him in the dunk tank. He knows his tips are almost non-existent (a quater) and treats you accordingly.

I have never been there but everyone I know raves about Drai's in the Barbary Coast/Bill's Gaming for after hours partying and food. Close to your hotel good for late night hook ups. not cheap but a good value for Vegas.

Depending upon how much exploringing you want to do try the Vegas Monorail. It has a station at IP and travels the whole strip from the Sahara to the MGM. $5 dollars for one ride, $9 for a pass that is good all day. $5 dollar may seem like a lot, but the trains are nice and air conditioned. No bumbs. Buy a couple of all day passes and hand them off between your friends. Some of these casinos are mamoth and the walks will be longer than you think.

Sahara Station
Las Vegas Hilton Station
Las Vegas Convention Center Station
Harrah's / Imperial Palace Station
Flamingo / Caesars Palace Station
Bally's & Paris Las Vegas Station
MGM Grand Station

Lastly, under the touristy category is The Fountains of Bellagio. One of the things I always like even when I lived in Vegas. Take a break from your session, walk outside and watch the show. You can watch it from the sidewalk of the Bellagio without going into the whole complex.

Monday - Friday

3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
show every 1/2 hour

8:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.
show every 15 minutes
Saturday & Sunday

12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Didn't read the responses, but I think the most apt analogy would be:

Given the choice between sex with Jessica Alba or Bea Arthur...

Best to enjoy the IP now. It's only a matter of time before Harrah's screws it up, lowers the comps and raises the cost of everything.

I'd check out Venetian if the price is the same, but I wonder if they'd charge you more for that many people (if they know)? I doubt that $20 would be enough there.
