So is Bailey right that this will just get stuck in committee and go nowhere?

However, it appears Republicans have switched votes in large #s, presumably to give the far-left an opportunity to expose their radicalism without actually putting Cheney at risk.

[/ QUOTE ]

Or maybe Republicans realize their party is in trouble and Cheney has disgraced it and they might extricate themselves more smoothly from this history if they have a fall guy?

[/ QUOTE ]

No. That's definitely not the reason.

They're hoping to expose the far left's influence over the Democratic Party.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ha. Wait a minute. People actually think the far left has influence over the democratic party?

So THAT'S why the republicans never ever get their way in the house or the senate, and why Bush has largely been contained from doing a lot of the things he wants.

Oh wait...

Why would it matter--he would just get pardoned anyway if it somehow got legs.

All but five Democrats voted to let it die in committee. The vast majority of Rs voted against.

It's hard to judge. Can a committe just ignore an impeachment referral?

The Democratic leadership will definitely like to see this killed. They don't want this dominating the House agenda.

I guess I'm confused on what they were voting on. I thought the vote was on asking the Judiciary committee to investigate impeaching Cheney and a yea vote was a vote to do this. Furthermore, I thought referring this to committee was part of the GOP master plan. However, you're saying the GOP was voting nay?
