Default balancing 401k with reguar investments

I plan on maxing out a solo 401k this year but still want to have my money invested instead of getting 5% interest in the bank
I understand that for the 401k (im 25) i can afford to make riskier investments like vanguards 2045 target retirement fund

However when you diversify your investments should you be look at them on a whole or look at the 401k seperately from outside investments?

depends when you need the money. if your 'regular investments ' are all long term things, then look at it combined with your 401k

well as of now im not planning on needing most of it anytime soon
ill probably buy a house in a few years but im not even sure where i want to live longterm yet, but it seems pretty pointless to only be getting 5%
