If you read the rules closely the properties can only be "sold." Trades can not happen although the easiest way to do this is to agree to "sell" the properties to each other for a certain amount. However, if one player sells the property before the other then the second player can renig on the "trade" and keep both properties. Obviously, I always play where you can simply trade them because thats the spirit of the rule imo, but its not actually the rule.
