I'm not against using some sort of electronic way to handle money, but in-game advertising kills me.

[ QUOTE ] I feel like almost no one can give change the old school way [/ QUOTE ] Counting? [/ QUOTE ] In all seriousness, I have seen a bunch of cashiers struggle mightily to make very simple transactions when their computer/register is on the fritz. Often times around here its college students too, which makes it even more pitiful. |

[ QUOTE ] I feel like almost no one can give change the old school way [/ QUOTE ] Counting? [/ QUOTE ] Sort of. Counting up to the nearest denomination coin/note. Example: The purchase amount is $2.12 and you give a $20. 3 pennies -> $2.15 1 dime -> $2.25 3 quarters -> $3.00 2 singles -> $5.00 1 $5 -> $10.00 1 $10 -> $20.00 Also, other basic stuff, like if the purchase amount is $4.85 and you give a $5 + a dime so that you can get a quarter back. More and more often, the cashier gives me my dime back and rings it up for $5. |

With the new change, kids are going to be exposed to charging purchases to a card, at a very early age! Now think about how many are gonna go into massive debt when they get their first credit card. [/ QUOTE ] In fact the exact opposite will happen. Kids will be used to tracking purchases made by card. Now, when kids grow up they can buy as much stuff as they have cash for. Then when they get a card it's like "wow i can buy stuff even if i don't have cash for it awesome!" If they get used to that at an early age (ie the amount of money they can spend is NOT related to the amount of cash they have in their hand) then they will be more responsible consumers when they get real credit cards. |

They don't understand what I was doing until they punch in in the register. Not everyone can be great at math. But there some basics that everyone should be good/better at. |

This is actually a very serious issue. Monopoly is not just a game -- it teaches money management and investing. With the new change, kids are going to be exposed to charging purchases to a card, at a very early age! [/ QUOTE ] This is not good. |

Re: Monopoly money gone (aka \'shoot me now\')
I feel like you could also tell a lot about someone's personality with how they played the game, especially how they organized their money.
I just put mine together, smallest demoninations on top, in a stack. It shows I'm somewhat organized, but overall pretty bad with it. Other people take each demoninationo separately and slide the ends under the board. They have skills. |
