right now baseball has a long meaningful season, where undoubtedly the best teams get to go to the postseason. admittedly, the postseason can be a bit of a crapshoot.

what you are proposing is a shorter season and a crapshoot playoff for getting to the postseason. in return you think that a longer series for the championship will be welcomed by the fans because the fans care if the better team in the WS actually wins.

i prefer the system that we now to the proposed one. fans like rooting for their own team, especially in august and september during playoff races. not for someone elses team because they are in the ALCS.

having said that, i would expand the playoffs to more teams.

well the thing about this is even the casual fan calls the cardinals world series victory a fluke... winning a one game playoff then a seven game series against a team who's rotation got set up (yours did not) and then two more nine game series.... i dunno in short, the best team wonn't always win, which is fine... but make them earn it

and its just putting the regular season back to what it used to be... would help with putting aside this steroids home run record era and making another category (154 game season hr record)
