Re: Scott Boras wants 9-game World Series
The ratings are bad enough for seven games.
I do like the idea of the "extravaganza" built around Games 1 & 2, but you hardly need to add extra games for that. |

Re: Scott Boras wants 9-game World Series
A 5-game sweep would mean only 1 home game for one of the teams.
Wouldn't work. |

You could split the awards between games 1 and 3, giving the AL awards in the AL stadium and the NL awards in the NL stadium. Or just do it all before game 1, whatever. |

Re: Scott Boras wants 9-game World Series
We've already had a November World Series. We don't need to stretch baseball to Thanksgiving.
Can't wait to see empty seats at Game Five of a World Series because one team is down 0-4. |

Re: Scott Boras wants 9-game World Series
I was under the impression that when a city held the Super Bowl that a large portion of the attendees were from all over the U.S. for this 'one big game'. One of the big benefits to the city, is, and I could be wrong, due to the large amount of tourists coming into town and spending money in some way. I couldn't imagine people traveling all over the country for 1 game of at least 5 of a series.
I always felt the reason that people traveled and went to the Super Bowl (or even the final four) is that they get to see the outcome of the two (or 4) 'best' teams playing each other. It is decided quickly, the games are 'fast paced', and 'anything can happen' for them to witness. It could benefit the owners of small market teams, but it also gives crappy owners less reason to compete/spend money, since they can attempt to 'buy' a post season game. Other than that, 9 games seems great. Crap, I love baseball, make it 50. craig |
