It is an extension. Extensions are what make firefox kick ass.
Here are the extensions that are must haves:

Addblock Plus does just what it says.

Filterset G updater automatically updates adblock list of adds to be blocked.

BugMeNot Finds and shares logins for websites that force you to register. If you want to read an article from last weekends LA times you can read it on their website, after you fill out an form to get a free membvership and let them spam your email. BugMeNot eliminates this pain in the ass and makes web surfing much much easier.

forecastfox displays current weather in the lower right hand corner of your firefox window.

Foxmarks synchronizes your bookmarks between multiple computers. A hand extension for getting you lap top and desktop to have the same bookmarks.

I tried firefox and didnt like it.

Something slightly 'wrong' about the look of it. IE 6.0 with google bar and customized layout - ship the cheddar.
