Default Dual Platform Mac....

in a few days i'll have the 17" macbook Pro with 160GB HD and 2G ram and some other sweet things. i was curious if any of you guys out there can tell me about using this computer in windows mode for things like cardrunners and porkerstars.

im upgrading from a powerbook so i've only played on fulltilt.

any other useful advice about this machine in referance to poker or cool features to look for would be much appreciated!

what do you want to know about it? There are basically two options, one is boot camp (free), which requires restarting to boot into windows, and the other is Parallels, which runs Windows inside of a window on your mac.

Boot camp is running windows natively, off the physical hardware of the Mac.

Parallels is pretty much a virtual PC inside your Mac, and will therefore be slower than dual-booting will be.

In general, if you are buying a Mac for the purpose of running windows (and occasionally OSX), you are overpaying for hardware. I'm a longtime PC lover though recently I've starting enjoying Mac's a little more (since I bought one for my wife). I can't possibly see myself switching over my primary OS, but I'm working on dual-booting windows and OSX on my Dell laptop.

Basically the macbook pro has the same kind of specs as most of the Dell Inspiron 1405, 1505 & 1705 laptops. Core2Duo, 512-2gb of memory, decent harddrive, and dedicated video.

Unless you need a new lappy right now I'd wait until the new MacBooks come out, maybe even until October when the new OS comes out. Boot camp is going to be part of the OS at that point.

Let us know how this goes and how you get around the TPM verifcation.

I'm thinking it's whatever you have to hack up to get OS X to run on non-Mac hardware.
