Bill Simmons suggests that Roger Clemens' cap feature a dollar sign.

I love that.

Classic and fitting. No self respecting Texan would argue with this. Let him wear his Toronto cap.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'll echo that sentiment, as a Yankee fan I don't want him in our cap.

Maddux goes in as a Brave, of course. Two-thirds of his 318 wins came with the Braves, not to mention the 11 straight trips to the post-season, plus 3 out of 4 of his Cy Youngs.

Alomar is a harder decision. He became a super-star in Toronto and won 2 World Series with them. He also played there longer than he played for any other team. Statistically, his best years were with Cleveland, though...but only marginally so. I think the nod goes to Toronto.

Piazza is a coin-flip between the Mets and Dodgers. He put up better numbers for a longer period with the Dodgers, mostly because he's been in a steady decline since 2003. His first four years with the Mets were as good as anything he did in his 6 years with the Dodgers, though.

clemens has said that he wants a Yankee cap. he won't get it, but why do you object to that? he had great years in NY.

any haters in Houston are also just being boo-birds. yes, he gets an enourmous paycheck, but isn't he the savior of the Astros? where would they be without him? are you mad that he keeps retiring, or are you mad that he won't play for any less money?

If you were to rank Clemens's seasons in order of greatness, his years at New York would be far down the list.

i think that was when he retired the first time, and of course ESPN started the discussion which cap should he wear in 5 years.

b/c it would be kind of silly. Wins are generally a bad stat, but here are his wins by team before this year:

Red Sox: 192
Yankees: 77
Blue Jays: 41
Astros: 31

Clemens goes in as a Red Sox, and I can't imagine anybody arguing this.

Because his retirement and then un-retirement (is there a better word for this) was disgusting.

He was beloved in New York. In his "last year" they had celebration for him before a game where the team presented him with a bunch of stuff, including a Hummer. He made it clear that he wanted to go into the HOF as a Yankee and that it was very important to him. I'm not sure how much coverage this sort of stuff got outside of New York, but Clemens was treated like a king for that season.

Then he turns around and comes back to play for Houston. I felt like he absolutely betrayed New York and all its fans. I understand that baseball is a business and that he had reasons for going to the Astros, but I felt 100% lied to by someone that acted like he wanted and planned to be a Yankee for the rest of his career.

I don't know what cap he should wear, maybe Boston, but I absolutely do not want him going in as a Yankee.
