Taking stab at 15/30 tonight, wish luck, good play
I am taking a stab at 15/30 live tonight. I have about 2.2 k in live BR money and am planning on taking 500 to the 15 game at HP tonight. If it doesn't happen tonight, it'll be thursday. What do I need to focus on? Maybe this should be in B/M but I'm pretty sure limit games are similar after 6/12, its just more bets on the table.

Re: Taking stab at 15/30 tonight, wish luck, good play
Search my posts in mid-limit. I've been taking a similar shot at Canterbury and learning lots (mostly what I don't know). The posters have some good things to say.
Still its gone OK so from a dollahs standpoint. Not sure how it playes out there, but CP 6/12 is fairly loose/weak (or I table shop to find those tables). The 15/30 can play that way, but it seems its more frequently 3 handed for 2-3 bets pre-flop. |

Re: Taking stab at 15/30 tonight, wish luck, good play
Good luck! I made the switch about 6 months ago at my local cardroom and it's been fun (and profitable). Some advice, therefore, based on my experience, not sure how well it will relate to HP ...
Most players have a clue at this level, there are defintely fish and bad players, but even these have a degree of knowledge over and above the lower limits. You'll get more and better players as a rule (but you know this). Play begins on the turn. Really concentrate on building a range for what people raise and limp in what position. If someone 3-bets the turn and there are 2 5's on the board, someone has a 5 - even if they raised preflop. I've seen some unbelievable preflop raises - J,2s; pocket 5s, pocket 6s; K,4 offsuit etc.etc. Open raises don't necessarily mean premium hands or anywhere close to it - player dependent. Aggression really does go up a significant level. Lastly, I think you'll be short with just a $500 buy-in. Some 30 games play just like 3/6 with sky-high variance. $500 isn't enough to get properly established in this type of game. Not trying to discourage you, just help you set the expectation within yourself, that it might be a quick session. Have you thought about cross-posting in Mid-limits? Better posters than I could weigh in and offer advice. Anyway, best of luck! (and good cards) |

I've played 8/16 one time at Hawaiian Gardens when there was like 400 people on the boards for the 6 game. It was similar to my normal 6/12 HP game.

target the loose money. avoid marginal plays versus skilled opponents. watch the money roll in. post this stuff in the Low Content thread.

Re: Taking stab at 15/30 tonight, wish luck, good play
You just plan on using the 5 hundy and not topping off or rebuying? That is just under 17 BBs. I know you must realize this, but you can lose that real fast.
All in all, I think that taking shots like this is good though. I see people always just buying in for 1 rack at the 4/8 which like 12 BBs & 1 rack at the 8/16 game which like 12 also. At least you will have a bit more than that to start with. |
