Still try to get him to put more money in with a hugely dominated hand pre-flop?

I wrote this before, think it got bumped, sorry, new on the board.

I called the turn, river was another 2, for a board of 53322.

I immediately bet out $200. He called...and lost to the ace. His call told me I was chopping at best and that the read had been wrong. His loss told me I was right, and he was crazy.

I know that's not the point, I know my play was crap. But as I posted in a reply above, I'm not convinved there aren't times when calling someone down, feeling like you are good even though your hand is weak, is not appropriate.

Thanks for all the replies.

Assume I am God and I know what is going to happen. In addition to everything else I know, I know he'll continue to bet after the flop, but fold to my big re-raise pre-flop. The EV of calling him down has to be a bit higher, no?

maybe even not because the limpers might come along too. unless you know their cards as well?

EDIT: to me it just looks like you're trying to justify an incorrect play by results/weird logic. you played this hand reallllly weird and randomly won the pot - but you lucked out your opponent might be brain dead.

You're probably right, of course, I just think that there is a little more too it, perhaps. I'd never even think about it in a new game, but this one is regular, and I know most of the players.

I have not denied, however, that the play in this hand was crap. I just find the theme somewhat interesting.

You play there a lot on the 2-3-5? Do you find it profitable?

The times i usually play are early Sunday morning before the $225 tourney. Ive found that the 1-1-2 games are really soft and can turn a nice profit while the 2-3-5 is usually tighter and not as many donks (main table). I also feel like the 2-3-5 always has the "regulars" playing together. And the $200 max is horrible for this game but doesnt really affect the 1-1-2.

You're right about the main table; a lot of nights I will leave when its my turn to move to it. Can be tough.

The thing about the 2-3-5 is that it can be extrememly tight for a couple hours, then all of a sudden EVERY pot becomes 1K++. Gets really wild.

For me its definitely profitable, but not nearly as much as it should be. If I (or anyone) could play my A game all the time, I think I'd clean up. But I lose my discipline way too much (in case you didn't already guess). Its something I am working on.

They are bringing back the NL games on Jan 1, something I've been waiting for, so for me I figure its better just to ride out the 2-3-5 than to play around in the 1-1-2. Though I agree with you about the $200 bet.

Are you here, or in NY?

Good ol East Bay. Moved out here about a year ago.

Do you go to LC's a lot? I usually go at least once a weekend. Let me know next time you are going and maybe we can meet up.
