Were you picked first or last for the sports team?

In football I was usually picked towards the top because I was a good quarterback, even though I have no strength (Pennington FTW?).

I do not miss shots in basketball, but I suck at defense, so I was usually picked in the top 80%.

Just by playing baseball throughout my childhood I would have enough skill to get picked early on in neighborhood games.

In gym class I would almost always get picked close to last. I was 5' 7" 120 lbs during my senior year of high school (I'm up to 125 now that I'm lifting!). The only sport I got picked high in was floor hockey because I was a prodigy in goal (too bad I can't skate).

It pretty much depended on who I was playing with. If they knew that I played better than my body really allows I got respect. Otherwise...

In football I'd be 1st or 2nd if it was tackle and more towards the middle in touch. Basketball I'd go mid-high for rebounding etc (no real skills outside 8 ft til recently).

Any other team sport I'd get picked near the bottom but probably deserved to go last. Watching me play baseball has to be painful. And I was pretty much a bottom 3 pick in everything until I turned 13 and started growing/lifting.

I was usually picked last, because I pretty much sucked at all the traditional American team sports: football, baseball/softball, basketball and kickball. I though I was hopelessly non-athletic until I took up skiing, which I never did competitively, but I got pretty decent at it.

As a few people have said already. It depended on who you were playing with. When I was in HS and everyone knew I was captain of the baseball team, ran cross country, and worked out a lot. I was picked near the top of all sports. When I got to college and would go play some pick up bball at the gym, I'd be picked near the bottom the first game. Usually the 2nd game I'd be picked closer to the top.

Willingness to give up the rock was a key component to my game as well.

I was about a foot shorter than almost every kid my age. Not kidding. When I was 10 you would have sworn I was 7.
Multiple doctors projected that I would grow up to be like 4'7" or something but I turned out to be a towering 5'6".
So yeah, I tried my ass off but picking me last was pretty much a given.
The fact that I could neither hit nor throw worth a crap also hurt my baseball cred.
I was a half-decent ball-handler and shooter at hoops though.
Football, touch or tackle, was pretty much ridiculous for me since I was a damn midget compared to everyone else.

this changed over time for me, based on how much basketball was played. i suck at basketball, but am pretty good at everything else, and very good at baseball.

i'd say i was picked toward the top in elementary school, toward the bottom in middle/high school, but the longer it had been since we had last played basketball, the higher i'd be picked.
