[ QUOTE ]
poker legend Doyle Brunson considers AK to be the best hand in no limit hold em

because

(1) You'll win more money when you make a hand with it; and

(2) You'll lose less money when you miss a hand with it.

Unless, of you subscribe to the AK is the nuts both preflop and postflop theorom, in which case you,

(1) Win the most when you're a head,
(2) Win a little instead of lose a little when you cause villains with slightly better hands to fold, and
(3) Lose the most when you're behind.

At least, that's what I'd expect in 200bb+ effective stack ring games.

But, I suspect you're talking about short-handed, 100bb effective stack games.

That would change things a bit, since every cb after a 3-bet flop is usually pot-committing. And folding the winning hand post flop in that game is much more costly, as a result. Plus, if villain expects you to have air much of the time when you go big preflop and post flop, his calling range opens up wider because of the small SPRs at the flop and AK probably does become the nuts often enough to make this theorem apply.

But, it's total spew at live full ring games with deep stacks.
