HE Limit Games - when does the pot get capped?
Hi,
When playing limit games sometimes a player tries to raise but this is disallowed, the dealer says that the pot is capped and the player has to call. Can someone explain the rules when the pot is capped. Also can someone recommend a good book that covers this type of thing, most poker books concentrate on strategy and not the basic rules of betting, side pots etc. Thanks. |

There is allowed 4 (1 bet 3 raises) per round. If you play live in the casino and you are headups there are unlimited raises.

Most places it is 1 bet and 3 raises. In Vegas it's 1 bet and 4 raises.

And it's wise to find out which rule is in place before your start to play. One other thing is that sometimes, if the pot is contested heads up, then the raising in unlimited. Another handy thing to know prior to the situation occurring. As for your other question about a rule book, google Robert's Rules of Poker |
