6 max or full ring

Hey guys..
What is recommended... playing at a 6 max game or a full ring cash game?? And why?

I like the 6 man tables. You'll probably be in more HU situations which should help your hourly profit. Full tables obviously broaden teh spectrum of suckouts and hands that have you beat. Hope that helps

I would say 6 max for a few reasons:

* 6 maxed is most popular throughout all the levels so if you have a choice it's best to specialise in this.

* More hands per hour = more experience = more rake

* You can be a lot more creative at 6 max and improve your game a lot. Full ring you have to play tight in general.

full ring is pretty boring compared to 6 max... prob higher variance...

full ring u have to play much tighter...

however.. there are some ppl who do very well playing FR... you should spend some time playing both and decide for yourself where u feel more comfortable and where u are more profitable...

Playing approx. 12% VPIP full ring is actually pretty low variance compared to 6-max. It's possible to make a good hourly BB rate just playing a ton of FR tables and playing only AK, AQ and all pocket pairs at micro-stakes. However, it's very boring and wont improve your game much. I prefere 6-max, because it's much faster paced and more fun, but I'll occasionally set mine FR for bankroll therapy.

You can reasonably play either. Play whatever you prefer.

Many casual players prefer 6-max, since they get to play more hands, both per hour and percentage. You may find it easiest to play a lot of pots against casual players in 6-max.

On the other hand, when you play in a full ring game, you don't have to pay as much attention to what your opponents are doing. You can expect that some of your opponents will be too loose in early position, which you can punish easily by raising with good hands behind them. There is no early position in a 6-max game. Many full ring players who move to shorthanded games discover that much of their advantage in the full ring games came from exploiting that weakness, and they need to work on other aspects of their games. Similarly, set-mining is easier in full-ring games, since you get extra chances to find a pocket pair in each orbit, and it is more likely that someone will have a big pair and will pay you off when you hit, and there tend to be more callers who bloat the pot.

When the first few players in a full ring game fold, this should be very similar to playing shorthanded. However, full ring players are less prepared to deal with blind-stealing, and may give too much credit to an open raise in late position. You might fold AJ after an early position raise, but you should consider 3-betting after a late position raise, since the latter represents much less strength.

Full ring games tend to produce more multiway pots.
