Secret of Mana worth playing solo?

I’ve had one go at this already but gave up now I've dug it out the Snes again and am prepared to give it another go. Am I wasting my time solo? I seem to remember monsters ganging up on me as the AI party members stand about like idiots doing nothing useful.

Yes. One of the best SNES rpgs either way. The CPU characters are stupid but you can make up for it with extremely fast magic casting.

I remember why I stopped playing it now I’m up against the first real boss a fire breathing tiger named spikey and he just keeps killing me. I only just learnt about the magic so maybe that will help.

You have to spend the time casting your spells over and over again until they level up. Then the game becomes quite easy.

That boss is easily the hardest fight in the entire game. Right after that you get magic, and magic in that game is super unbalancingly powerful, because most of the elementals have spells that you can chain cast repeatedly without giving your opponent a chance to do anything.

Nah. The Mana Holyland and Mana Fortress are infinitely harder if you don't know where to buy the armor above the Battle Suit. I know plenty of people who didn't know where to find it and had to level up absurdly to try to beat the game.

Great game, but it could've been so much better. A few huge flaws:

- Computer AI sucks when they're controlling your allies during battle. You really have to do everything yourself.

- As was mentioned, magic is way too powerful and after you get it all boss battles are beaten by simply casting attack spells over and over again.

- You computer controlled allies will often get stuck behind objects when following you.

Great game, get a hold of Final Fantasy Legend (Secret of Mana 1), Secret of Evermore (Similar game) and Secret of Mana "3". (Don't know the proper title, the sequel to Mana though)
