Kitty, that's really sad.

I'm over in Thailand, and I met a woman who had just moved over here from Idaho. We were talking and I axed her if it was tough to leave home, and she said, the toughest thing was leaving her horses behind. She was about forty something, and had one of her horses since she was 12 years old. Its really hard for me to imagine what kind of a bond that would be. She knew her horse for longer than she knew her husband.

I bred for this particular foal. I'm not a breeder, but two years ago my best friend and I acquired mares and picked out a stallion to breed. It was very planned.

What now? I don't know. The owner of the stallion offered me a free breeding back. Several people have offered me the use of their mares (I had sold my mare right after Kylie was born). People have been really really kind, offering me use of their horses. It's hard to make a decision right now though.

I am so sorry for your loss. Take solace in the fact that you loved and cared for her during your brief time together, and she knew it. A terribly sad event; sadly, the privilege of animal companionship often extracts a significant emotional cost. Keep the faith.
May your memories of her burn brightly as you go forward.
