Default got a parking ticket with a rental car

I got a $40 parking ticket the other day. I'm driving a rental from Alamo. On the ticket they wrote the license plate, and under VIN it said "cannot read".

Should I pay?

Only if you don't want to pay it later with additional charges.

This has happened to me several times, several different rental companies. It's inevitable. you might as well pay up now.

Pay the ticket.

If you don't, the city will hit up the rental agency. The rental agency will then pay it. The rental agency has your credit card number on file and a piece of paper with your signature on it agreeing that you're responsible for any tickets.

The rental agency will then come after you for the price of the ticket, plus an adminitrative fee. The rental agency gets to make up whatever fee they like and you've already agreed, in advance, to pay it.

You will pay considerably more than the price of the ticket.

Unless you think the missing VIN will get you out of the ticket (unlikely). If so, then you need to fight the ticket not ignore it.

The rental car company will charge your credit card + a service fee.

I have a ticket from a rental car. I never paid it and then I lost my credit card. So now they can't charge me. I win Enterprise.
