-30 BIs at any level is waay more than you can chalk up to variance. Move down man. Even if you're still rolled for NL 100, 30 BIs is a lot and you shouldn't take it lightly. Play 50NL (or even 25NL if you're really feeling down), fix up your leaks, and rebuild your confidence. [/ QUOTE ] already moved down and I'm trying to regain confidence |

Re: ***uNL Microbrew Thread*** NOV 2007 (ot)
I had a 25BI downswing at 50NL about 6 months ago. Mostly due to being horrible at pokering, but also due to running worse than I ever thought possible.
But whatever the exact reason, until you have been to the dark, dark place that is a losing streak this bad, you simply do not know the true meaning of poker pain. It is brutality beyond conception. It is ceaseless and it is nightmarish. And I no longer believe any of us average grinders/wannabees are immune from it. The worst part for me was when I became Poker Dyslexic. Dyslexics who have trouble reading often report that they see the words on a page swimming and blurring before their eyes. The effect is that the dyslexic can't "get a grasp" of the word, and so it's meaning just slips away from them. Put a series of words together in a sentence and the problem is compounded. Something very similar happened to me at the table. The cards and chips looked weird - I could stare at them and stare at them but they had completely lost any rational meaning and defied any interpretation. You are so punch-drunk, that you simply cannot process the value of your hand or the meaning of a bet. Everything is kind of a drunken blur in front of you. It is deeply, deeply weird and scary. Very scary in fact. The good news is that once you have stared into this heart of darkness, everything is brighter afterwards. Cliff Notes: Stop sucking and take your beats like a man/lady. |

more thinking
is the minraise on turn/river really that bad? there seems to be a lot of cases where people would fold to a bigger raise, but for some reason many people just can not fold to a minraise. im thinking more of big pots where...say at 25NL, with 100bb effective stacks, someone bets $7, and you minraise to 14...they call them theyre pot committed to call the final few dollars...probably on more dry boards, wet boards its obv bad of course im just a donk musing about random things |

I am down several buyins this week and now thinking i am going to have to drop back down limits. Am i naíve in thinking most 2+2 25nl and 50nl players have built their bankrolls through grinding, or are alot of people funding these massive downswings with outside money? |

Re: ***uNL Microbrew Thread*** NOV 2007 (ot)
I don't think I ever fund my account with outside money. I look at it this way: If I drop 20 BIs, I need to run ~5ptbb/100 over the next 40k hands and I'll make it back. That's usually around a month for me. So, after a huge downswing, you're usually looking at a month or so recovery period assuming you get back to playing poker well.
