Question about going to see a psychiatrist...
I'm going later today to talk about ADD. I've been really struggling in my first semester of law school, plus exams are coming up next week. I've got old report cards showing what a talkative/inattentive youngster I was. Is there anything else I should bring to help persuade the doc to prescribe me some medicine? Any other advice? I really want to be prepared. Any help is appreciated.
BTW, I'm not one of those adderall freaks, just sincerely looking for any medicine that will help. |

Re: Question about going to see a psychiatrist...
The only think I can imagine you might want to think about in advance is whether you have any family history of ADD or other psychiatric conditions. Otherwise, you should know everything relevant off the top of your head.

Re: Question about going to see a psychiatrist...
Just tell the psychiatrist you are truly having a problem and explain the symptoms and your past history. Treat it like any other doctor visit. Provide any information you think will be helpful and let him/her decide the best course of action. I can't imagine that her or she will challenge your symptoms.

Re: Question about going to see a psychiatrist...
I went to the doctor to get aderol a few years ago. You will go to the doctor and he will ask you 10 questions such as , "Do you have problems concentrating in class" and "Is it difficult for you sit still?", answer enough of them correctly and he will say, "You have ADD, now let me prescribe you aderol." Then he will give you the smallest dosage and tell you to take up to 4 a day. The next month go back and tell him they are not working now as well as they were working when you first were prescribe them and he will give you a larger dosage and tell you to take up to 4 a day. Repeat this one or two times more each month till you are happy with the size of your pill and you have tons of extras lying around just in case. This is what happened to me.
