Default Re: Cost a month

When I was a sophomore in college two years ago my parents would give me $200 a week on top of bills so $800 a month. This exact question was brought up at the same time in one of my larger undergrad classes by the prof. and the first person he asked said $800. I was about to yell out same untill the class broke out in laughter after him and most of the kids said that was way too much.

Why the hell is all your university lives so cheap??

I go to a univeristy in London and we get a lot of American exchange students and they all moan how bloody expensive london is. To have a good time, going out say 3 times a week, maybe 1 meal will cost about $350- $450 a week. Im not even exaggerating! That doesn't even take into account my room rent which is $260 a week.

If we are strictly talking expenses/personal stuff, and not including rent/utilities/tution etc...Then I spend roughly $600 per month.

$200 for weed
$200 for food (delivery, eating out, grocery shopping)
$125 on booze, aside from bottled water beer and liqour are the only other liquids I consume.
$75 on misc. social things, like going to movies, going bowling, dates, etc.

I have roomates and friends who get by with $150 a month. It's all your own personal discipline and if you are in control of your spending habits. For example, I have a few buddies who rarely go out to eat, never buy drinks at the bars (always just pre drink hard before hand), and always drink cheaper beer/liqour.

However, since most of us at least have some finacial padding from poker, I think the ammounts we spend monthly are significantly higher then most other college kids.

You can definatly get by and still live a very active and social lifestyle on under $300 per month @ school.

not counting rent/utilies, which is about $550 a month;
smokes: $100
food: $150
drinking: $100 (I've cut back a lot recently,go out roughly once a week.
misc: $50-$100 (usually a nice dinner or two, sometimes a new xbox game or something)
probably less lately though, been trying to cut back a lot, mainly due to a combination of paying fines, paying off a credit card, and trying to launch a website. I haven't actually been out on the town in like 3 weeks.
