I just finished "special topics in calamity physics" and really enjoyed it. it's kind of a mystery involving a bunch of high school kids and a teacher. if you liked "the secret history", you'll like this.

Kind of out there but ok, if you can find a good introductory book on quantum physics, it's a ridiculously interesting and cool subject imo. Fwiw, I am generally disinterested in physics but quantum really fascinates me for some reason.

I also enjoy Yann Martel as an author (Life of Pi, The Facts Behind the Helsinki Roccamatios are ones I've read).
