One time I was in a game, and Fish #1 asked for a new setup.

Fish#2 said "You hoping to get luckier cards?"

Fish#1 looked at Fish#2 like he was be ridiculous "No, the cards can't change your luck. The new setup is to slow down the game so I get to play less hands with the unlucky dealer."

I would leave a game if I was denied a request to change decks.

[/ QUOTE ]

But I'm sure you wouldn't request a setup change without a very good reason, not "I need to change my luck".

[/ QUOTE ]

That's true. I would only do it because I felt there was something wrong with the current deck.

But you can't let the unlucky dealer handle the new setup! That'll get doomswitch cooties all over it!

When they do a setup change, are the cards that are brought in brand new or reused cards?

I've seen idiot poker pro wannabes ask for setups at microlimit NL tables, because he thought something "must" be fishy since one guy was hitting cards. The ironic thing is that 2 cards were actually marked slightly, but he never did figure that out. What a complete dork that guy was.

Usually reused unfortunately. This is one case where casino poker is worse than well run private poker.

I mean, how stupid was that guy? As soon as the unlucky dealer touches the new deck, it's contaminated.

Bad players who are losing often ask for a new set-up in my town.

If I am winning, my line is to jokingly say, "Wait a second, I like these cards." I then argue that winning players should have veto rights on new set-ups requested by losing players. This usually starts a spirited debate about a completely idiotic topic - always good fun.

Ok, one of the other players obviously didn't know what they were talking about, with regards to the drawing for seats thing. I had never heard of this and I thought it sounded absurd. A regular at the table told me that Joe Cool's request wouldn't be honored before the floor came over, so I didn't inquire about it any further.

Joe Cool was a weak-tightie, had only won 1 pot, and didn't lose any big pots or get sucked out on or anything. That's what made his request seem so bizarre, especially since there were a couple players at the table who had gotten stacked multiple times, and they were the most vocal ones complaining about JC asking for a setup change.

mainly because,

JC says he's requested 2 setup changes in the same hour before, and the requests were granted.

Floormen can be accommodating, but they don't like players abusing the privilige.
