Arizona State Poker Championship - Satellites are running
Casino AZ is running satellites into the "State Championship" tournament (Aug 18). Satellites are $110, tournament is $1050 (two days, Sat/Sun), and if you know anything about single table tournaments, they are very soft.
[ QUOTE ] "You called my all-in with J3"? Yes, sir, I did since I was getting over 2-1, and I've raised your blinds six times in a row so you might be taking a shot at me, and as evidenced by your nine high, you were. [/ QUOTE ] |

Do they go all day? If not when, and do they fill up quickly?

Re: Arizona State Poker Championship - Satellites are running
On Saturday they were running two at once. Thursday afternoon they were back to back. Sunday it seemed one every couple hours.

Re: Arizona State Poker Championship - Satellites are running
Oh, and you can't get cash, only the tourney entry, which you can resell. Last years tournament was $500 entry and since it's limited to 450 entries supposedly seats were selling at a premium just beforehand. I don't know if it will happen this year due to the doubling of the fee, and the floor warned that they wouldn't tolerate people reselling seats at over face value. This year first prize is a guaranteed $250,000.
The single tables start with 1500 chips, 25/50 so it's only a couple levels before it's push/fold. I won on the fourth try and I made huge mistakes in two of those sats to get knocked out. People played way too passive once the blinds get big, I was warned several times that "I guarantee I'm calling you next time" if I kept stealing, so I kept stealing and they kept foldin. |

I was told if you win multiple entries you could be paid cash, true or not true?

There is a regular named Ray who's won at least 5 of them and he told me he was just selling them to high limit players. I don't know any high limit players other than Howard Beale and he's such a nit he doesn't play tournies |

Re: Arizona State Poker Championship - Satellites are running
I am 0 for 1, and need to play a few more. But I am running so hot, I don't want to waste time playing in a satty. But I also don't want to pony up the 10.5 bills.
And I would be reasonably surprised if this tourney doesn't get chopped at the FT with 1st and 2nd taking 75% of the prizepool. |

NEWS FLASH! READ ALL ABOUT IT!
Hell has frozen over and Howard Beale won a seat into the big August tourney on his first try! Seriously, on my way out the door I decided that I didn't want to take mom to Denny's yet and got into a Sat at once. $110 down the drain, I figured. First hand I get 2 black Aces in the SB, get all in v. A-Jo and double up. Except for one huge suck-out card wise (though of small import chip wise) the thing was moderately easy even though I made a few smooth plays if I do say so myself. So, ok everybody, I've got plans for the $250,000 but I'm sure second place money will be decent. btw: I'm sure that Hass won't mind if I mention that he (at the time of my leaving) had made the money in tonights tourney w/ enough chips to be in contention to win. He told me that he's got to play some tourneys to practice for the big one. I think I'd better do the same. |

[/ QUOTE ] Ok so I went card dead for 2 hours and was blinded away until the button open raised AI. I have A8o in the small blind and push. Of course he was trying to steal the blinds with AK and I lose. I still had 2 yellow chips but that was only enough to cover the small blind. I was lucky to be on the button so I had a few hands to try and get some chips back. I get black 9's in the CO, but the bb had aces. 7th place for $911. I played really well actually except for one AK hand where I called in the bb and should have moved all in, I think on what is called a squeeze play. Don't know if I have that right. But whatever. Next tues Howard and I will be going heads up for 1st. Congrats Howard on your score. I don't know if Pope has a seat yet. If he doesn't maybe we could rig one of the satts for him to give a 2+2er the best chance of being AZ poker champ. (kidding, kidding on the rigging) |

Re: Arizona State Poker Championship - Satellites are running
I wonder if I know who you guys are. I go to CAZ fairly regularly, used to be more often. I play mainly 5/150, but occasionally 8/16, 20/40, 10/150 or 6/12 Omaha. I sometimes play the tournaments there also.
