50 BB isn't an unusual down-swing. If that $.50/1.00 was on Party, find another site.

party has a very high ante structure leadin to big inital pots relative to the bettin limits. one of the biggest mistakes in stud is to enter a pot on 3rd with a hand that doesn't warrant it based on the odds the pot offers. bad players will enter too many pots regardless of the structure and a large inital pot greatly lessens that mistake, and hence diminishes ur edge over them. these considerations carry over into the later streets as well.

basically, big pots encourage chasin while small pots dun, but the fish will chase either way; u wanna play in games where their chasin will cost them.

in truth, u'll still beat the games at party - sm ppl there really are that bad, but it'll just add a ton of variance cos u'll often be forced to chase just as they would. on party, a good session can be really really good, but a bad one can be really really bad! if thatz wat ur after, then there's nthg wrong with stayin there!

Party's $.50/1.00 game has a $.25 ante. This is so high that if you become really proficient at this level, it should skew your perception of how poker is played. This could be a hindrance as you try to move up in limits.

It's fun. Well, it's fun at hi/lo. I can't manage to loosen up that much at hi only.

Personally I think playing tiny ante games like at Stars distorts people's perception of how poker is played.
