update: finally got ahole of property manager. He told me that they didnt shampoo the carpets and that he told the landlord to send me a check for the full 900. He said he would repeat said testimony if needed. I called the landlord and repeated that and am waiting to hear back.

UPDATE:

VICTORY!!!!

After calling the property manager and pointing out the inconsistencies in what the landlord had said, he agreed to write me a check for the rest of the deposit. BOO YAH.
